Leigh Farm Labyrinth

7-Circuit Labyrinth at Leigh Farm Park, Durham, NC — Photos by John Otter

Dragon’s Cauldron is excited to have the opportunity to work with South Eastern Efforts Developing Sustainable Spaces (SEEDS) to shape their vegetable garden at Leigh Farm Park in Durham, NC into a 7-circuit, public labyrinth.  SEEDS is a local non-profit community garden whose goal is to teach people to care for the earth, themselves and each other through a variety of garden-based programs.

Our work began with walking the land and engaging the space.  Then came few days of intense grounding work, getting dirty in the dirt.  After weeding, tilling and grinding any remaining stumps, we had a good foundation.  We then cleared the energy of the space and blessed the land for the laying of labyrinth.  Finally, using the Witch unit-of-measure, and a several bales of straw, we created the labyrinth.

The next phase of the project will be to lay the beds, which we anticipate will happen as part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on January 18, 2010.
